SUDDEN SURPRISE (c, 2, Giant Surprise–Ready and Good, by More Than Ready) made it three wins in a row to kick off his career with a score in Belmont’s Bertram F. Bongard S. for New York-breds Sunday afternoon. A first out winner sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs over the sloppy main track at Saratoga July 30, he became his freshman sire (by Giant’s Causeway)’s first stakes winner with a score in the 6 1/2-panel Funny Cide S. for Empire-breds there Aug. 28. Sent postward with a 7-2 chance in this spot, the bay took control after the start and set a pedestrian pace through fractions of :23.91 and :47.22. Confronted by Championofthenile (Pioneerof the Nile) to his outside and Get Jets (Scat Daddy) along the rail turning for home, the homebred had just enough gas left in the tank to prevail by a nose. Get Jets finished second. The final time for seven furlongs was 1:23.52. The winner hails from the extended family of MGSW Wide Country. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0, $253,800.
